NOWhere: An Anthology by Chinese Adoptees is inviting Chinese adoptees to submit poetry, prose, personal essays, fiction and nonfiction, inspired by the adoption experience, for consideration.
UPDATE: SUBMISSIONS ARE CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTED. This project is on hold indefinitely.
ENTRY FEE: None.
OPEN TO WHOM? Chinese Adoptees.
THEME: Fiction or non-fiction inspired by the adoption experience.
We are keen on reading fresh ways of capturing your adoption experience. Your protagonist or antagonist, or even a passing character could be a Chinese adoptee. The structure could be, for example, an essay, a dialogue, or a haiku. It’s up to you. We are looking for pieces that convey an experience, emotion, or, a point of view, that may resonate with other adoptees, and perhaps bring them comfort, a new perspective, or camaraderie. We do not want to read any erotica, stories about animal torture, or that contain gratuitous violence. We are not accepting previously published pieces (this includes pieces published on blogs), or simultaneous submissions.
DEADLINE: Tentatively, 23 July, 2023*
WORD COUNT: 3000 words max.
FORMAT: WORD doc only. No images. No tabs, except in poetry. Please use the return key throughout the document in all other submissions.
FONT: Times New Roman 12 pt.
POETRY: Single Line Spacing.
PROSE: Double spaced.
PERSONAL ESSAYS: Double Spaced.
TITLE: On the first page.
AUTHOR NAME: In the header of each page.
PAGE NUMBERS: In the footer of EACH page.
Please make sure that your document is proof-read and edited.
One submission per form.
Maximum two submissions per author for this anthology; however not more than one will be printed per author, if accepted.
If you change your mind about submitting the piece, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and the title of the piece you would like to withdraw from consideration.
Please do not email regarding the status of your submission. The review process will take at least 30 days. To stay posted on the status of this project, please subscribe to the newsletter: https://tinyletter.com/Nowhere_Anthology
By submitting your work, you agree and confirm that we can publish your piece in the anthology. If you are accepted, you will receive a contract to sign, stating further terms to publication. However, if your piece is accepted and you change your mind about having it in the anthology, you will have 20 days after acceptance to withdraw your story. You grant NOWhere Anthology and staff first serial rights to your original work submitted. Rights revert back to you, the author, six months after publication. And non-exclusive rights thereafter.
You also confirm that this piece is original and unpublished. If your work is that of plagiarism, you agree to take full responsibility legally and otherwise for work you have claimed is originally yours. Moreover, by submitting a story, you agree that we can reformat and make punctuation changes without your prior consent. If the story is formatted a specific way that you prefer, let us know in your cover letter. However, we will contact you if there are major edits. If you do not agree to this, please email us at email@example.com immediately, so we may remove it from our consideration.
